Obituary of Mildred Blanche Aikens-Hebb

NEW GLASGOW – The family of Mildred Blanche Aikens-Hebb shares the peaceful passing of Mildred at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow on March 11, 2024.

Born in New Glasgow on December 24, 1921, Mildred was the daughter of John Malcolm MacDonald and Ethel Blanche MacDonald (nee MacKinnon). Mildred is survived by her niece Cindi (Gary) Williams and stepchildren, Sandra (Russell) Mosher and Kenneth (Carol) Hebb, as well as many special "close to her heart" members of her extended family. She is pre-deceased by her first husband, Hiram Aikens; second husband, Rev. Cecil St. Clair Hebb; sister, Helen Isobel Sweet, and her husband, William “Bill” Sweet; nephew, Paul Sweet and half-brothers, Sears (Verna), Ewen (Mary), and Harold MacDonald.

Mildred volunteered at the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry, Stellarton, for several years. For many years, she worked in ladies' fashion at the former David’s Clothing Store, New Glasgow. Mildred enjoyed playing the piano, dancing, playing cards, and crokinole at family gatherings in Middleton. She also was a devoted owner of dogs; her favorite being cocker spaniels. For Mildred, "Life has changed, not ended!"

Mildred was also an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow. During her time with the church, she served on many committees as well as being a member of the ACW. She also was an active member for many years with the Dr. Caroline Carmichael Chapter of I.O.D.E. and a member of the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge No. 42, Thorburn.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Glen Haven Manor staff for the tender loving care she received.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 11, 2024, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow with Rev. Jeanne Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mildred may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow, or a charity of your choice.

"Life has changed; not ended!"
