Elizabeth MacDonald

ARDNESS – Elizabeth MacDonald, 97, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow formerly of Ardness, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in the Manor.

Born June 6, 1914 at Doctor’s Brook, the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Alexander and Sarah (MacDonald) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker all her life and had been employed for a brief period of time with Lismore Seafood’s. She enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren, especially her daily visits from grandson Mitchell, while at home and in the Manor. Elizabeth expressed her deep faith through the love she shared with family and friends.

Surviving are her daughters, Shirley (Francis) MacMillan, Trenton; Debby (James) Mahoney, Ardness; Joyce (Neil) MacGillivray, Brierly Brook; sons, Larry, John (Jo-Ann), Ardness; Brad (Wendy), New Glasgow; Peter (Marion), Ardness; Edgar (Marion), Ashdale; Louie (Grace), Ardness; son-in-law, David MacPherson, Arisaig; daughter-in-law, Claire MacDonald, Egerton; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Sister Donalda MacDonald, Antigonish and Vi MacDonald, Ontario.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Lawrence MacDonald; daughter, Mary J. MacPherson; son Jerome; daughter-in-law, Cecilia Ann (Kirwan); step-grandchildren, Blaise and Bernadette; sisters, Mary Catherine Funke, Janet Brine and Anne Finney; brothers, Alexander, Dougald, Joseph, John Dan, Anthony, John Allan and Michael.

The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 13th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bailey’s Brook.
